Detroit once known as "Motor City" is the birth place of many of the enormous automobile manufacturing plants along with
nearby Flynt Michigan, which defined the prosperity of the American Industrial Age. Because the city was defined by the
Automobile it is spread out much the same as Los Angeles, and there is not particular tourist or hotel mecca; instead
choose your hotel by proximity to your ultimate destination.
If you seek a hotel Downtown it's worth noting that downtown hotels are limited because Detroit's downtown has suffered
so much in recent years, due to a shift of manufacting jobs.
Omni Detroit River Place,
which will be an ideal location when the casinos open in that area. Until then it's not necessarily the most
convenient place to stay. Other options are primarily going to be the Suburban and Airport staple hotels such as
Holiday Inns,
Bester Westerns and
La Quinta hotels.
